Recently, Professor WANG Yi and Professor ZHAO Jing of the College of Basic Medicine of Chongqing Medical University, associated with the Professor WANG Guixue from the College of Biomedical Engineering at Chongqing University, have published their latest research findings in the internationally renowned journal The Innovation. The title of the article is "A polymerized probucol nanoformulation with neutrophil extracellular vesicle camouflage for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury therapy."

The study, focusing on the pathological characteristics of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, has constructed a Biomimetic Polymeric Pre-drug Nanofomulation which has the function of targeting the oxidative stress and inflammatory response in the area of brain ischemia-reperfusion injury by combining Polymer Prodrug with Biomimetic Technology.

According to the study,  researchers have found that NPPBNPs can efficiently target inflammatory brain vascular endothelial cells in vitro, block the adhesion of neutrophils to the inflamed endothelium, and successfully cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) model. They can effectively improve the cerebral blood flow at the lesion site, repair damage to the blood-brain barrier, and significantly reduce the volume of cerebral infarction in mice.

The results of Transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) found that NPPBNPs mainly exert their therapeutic effects by changing signal pathways such as AMPK, JAK-STAT, NOD-like receptor, and NF-κB to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory responses at the site of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.
